What you can do before you sign up

Open it, type a suburb, and see what is on there.

Every act on Open Dawn has a profile with what they play and, where they have added one, a link to hear it. Open a venue to see what is coming up there. Every gig has a room on your phone where you can read what is going on and ask for a song from the act's own list, when they have requests switched on. None of that needs an account.

It is new, and it says so. The list is short in some suburbs today and grows every time a venue or an artist adds themselves. If you want every gig in Perth this weekend, the gig guides still have the longer list. If you want the ones near you, played by people you can follow, this is the app. Here is how to find live music near you.

What an account adds

An account takes under a minute.

Follow the artists and venues you like, so their next gig turns up for you rather than you hunting for it. Post in the room at a gig, message the people you meet there and join a group. Leave a review of a gig you went to, which is kept separate from how a venue rates a booking. Open Dawn accounts are for people aged 16 and over.

If you play, the same account carries your artist profile and, once you apply and are approved, the gig offers from venues. If you run a venue, it is where you book. One sign-in, whichever side of the stage you are on.

Questions about the app

Is the Open Dawn app free?

Yes, for fans and for artists. Looking around is free, an account is free, and asking for a song at a gig is free. A venue, or a private host booking a musician for their own event, pays for the gig they book. Nothing else in the app costs money.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. You can browse artists, venues and upcoming gigs, open a venue to see what is coming up, and ask for a song in a gig room without one. An account is what lets you follow, post, message and review.

Is it only for Perth?

The app is on the Australian App Store and Google Play, and the gigs on it are Perth first, because that is where the venues booking through Open Dawn are. An artist account is open to anyone in Australia, and the browser version opens anywhere.

Is there an iPad, Mac or Windows app?

Not as its own app yet. The browser version at app.opendawn.com.au runs on all of them with the same account. When another device gets its own app, it will be listed here.

How old do you have to be?

Open Dawn accounts are for people aged 16 and over. You are asked your date of birth once, before you choose the kind of account you want. Looking around without an account has no age gate.

See you at the gig.

Free on iPhone and Android, and in any browser. If you play, bring your links. If you run a room, bring a date.
